Benny Lim is the Associate Professor of Practice in Cultural Management and Director of the Master of Arts in Cultural Management programme at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He has also been a Visiting Professor at The Design School of Taylor’s University in Malaysia since 2021. Prior to his current academic roles, Benny was part of the senior leadership team at Berjaya University College and KDU University College in Malaysia, leading developments in communication and media studies, as well as the creative arts. He was also an Adjunct Professor of Communication and Media Studies at UniPegaso Italy (2019-2023), Visiting Scholar at Peking University’s Institute of Cultural Industries (2019-2020), and an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham Malaysia’s Asia Research Institute (2019).
Outside of academia, Benny is a performance maker, theatre producer/director, and festival director. Since 2001, he has conceptualised and produced numerous theatre productions and art festivals, often with a focus on issues affecting marginalised communities. Currently, Benny serves as the Board Chair of Along the Edge Limited, a non-profit arts organisation in Hong Kong, member of the Programme Sub-committee of The TENG Company in Singapore, and member of the Advisory Board of the University Arts Centre, CUHK Shenzhen. He has also served as an Arts Advisor (Arts Administration) and Examiner (Drama) for the Hong Kong Arts Development Council since 2023.
